Gale Massey

Brief Bio:
Gale Massey's best known work is a pocket-size book titled Grief, Reminders for Healing (1991, 750,000 copies in print). It is available at www.grief-remindersforhealing.com. She is also the creator of If You Are Grieving, a popular video on Youtube. Additionally, her flash fiction piece, The Train Runner, won first place in the Seven Hills Review and is nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her short story, A Place to Start, will be published in the Stories for Sendai anthology. You can also find her at www.galemassey.com.
What genres do you write?
My passion is best suited for women's literary fiction, young adult and non-fiction. I've also written some humour/travel pieces.

What are you currently writing? Sum it up in 10 words or less.
I've recently completed a young adult/women's literary crossover novel.

What do you do when you're not writing?
When I'm not writing I'm reading, or helping other writers with their work. both of those activities make me a better writer and a better person and I truly believe it takes a village to create a successful novel.

What is your ultimate goal as a writer?
My goal as a writer is to learn as much about the craft as possible until I've written the best story that's inside me. More concretely, I aim to write four novels and possibly a memoir in the next fifteen years, along with several short stories.

How close are you to achieving this goal?
I've learned a lot about writing--enough to know that the craft is always evolving and will always be fascinating. And lately I've been getting published in print journals, so I'm very optimistic!

What is the single most important piece of advice you can give a fellow writer?
If you're going to attend conferences (and I believe you should), do your homework first. Research the presenters and agents, and make sure they honestly have something to offer your specific project before you invest your time and money.
