Meet the Authors: Lorraine Leo

Today, we are very pleased to introduce...

Lorraine Leo

Brief Bio:
Lorraine is a teacher in Massachusetts, but once a month for an hour she is an online teacher in an elementary school classroom in Sendai, Japan. She has been working together with fifth grade teacher in Sendai since 2007 to help his students practice English with a 'native' speaker. She looks forward to working with the students and their teacher and hope that they will be able to continue this again in the new school term. Her poem The Children of Sendai will be published in the Stories for Sendai anthology.

What genres do you write?
This was my first piece.

What do you do when you're not writing?
I like to talk with people from other countries to learn more about them.

What is the single most important piece of advice you can give a fellow writer?
My advice is to write what you are passionate about.

  1. Congratulations on having your first piece selected for publication. And it sounds like you have a tremendous personal connection to Sendai, so that must make it even more wonderful.

  2. Thanks very much. I appreciate your comment. I am happy to report that the conditions in Sendai continue to improve each day Since the poem was written I have had wonderful conversations with Sakari Shigeto, the teacher who I work with. He has taken a year off to study the English language, but I am sure when he returns to teaching we will continue our learning journey with his students.

  3. Thanks for the update! I will be announcing shortly that the anthology will be up for sale until Dec 15th, after which we will pool all our earnings and donate it to the Sendai relief. So if you want to get a copy, or know someone who does, now's the time to do it, before it's gone forever!
